architecture & design studio
Core Collective

Core Collective Architects is an architecture & design studio, operating in Tasmania and Victoria with a commitment to sustainable, elegant and robust architecture. We have an ingrained love of the natural environment and appreciation of local craftsmanship, which we instill in every project.

We work closely with consultants and clients, as well as construction and creative industries, delivering projects that achieve excellent functional, ecological and sociological outcomes balanced with a cohesive design aesthetic.

The studio works across a range of project types and sizes from small scale residential and commercial, to master planning and multi-residential. We take a rigorous approach to all projects, including strategic planning, client briefing, research, analysis and attention to detail. Our projects not only improve the value of a property, they also work towards improving the broader urban realm.

Core Collective Architects hold A+ Membership of the Australian Institute of Architects, are signatories of Australian Architects Declare Climate & Biodiversity Emergency, and maintain a Second Party-Certified Quality Assurance System, which can be viewed upon request.

The Team

Ryan Strating

Founding Director & Architect

Ryan is devoted to making architecture that has a low-environmental impact and provides a healthy and beautiful environment for its occupants.

To every project he brings a wealth of knowledge of thermally efficient construction and sustainable building materials, demonstrating the value added through investing in high-quality and high-performance architecture.

Ryan is the founder and technical developer of Clinka, a sustainable building materials company bringing European technologies to Australia. Ryan’s vast knowledge of renewable energy systems, construction materials, thermal performance, and energy life-cycle design ensures our projects are both sustainable and a joy to engage with.

Dr. Ceridwen Owen

Ceridwen is an Associate Professor in Architecture & Design at the University of Tasmania.

Her practice, teaching and research centres on design for sustainability, health and social inclusion, with a focus on cognitive and sensory diversity in the design of the built environment.

She is particularly interested use of creative and visual-based methods to gain in-depth insights into experiences of place and to extend opportunities for inclusion, collaboration and engagement in research and design projects and in her teaching practice.

Ceridwen has substantial residential architectural experience, and has worked as a sustainability consultant on large commercial developments and public projects.

Emily Taylor

Associate

Emily is a registered architect with over ten year’s experience across a range of project types in New South Wales and Tasmania including commercial, education, healthcare, public and multi-residential projects.

As a Project Architect Emily brings a conscientious and rigorous approach to the design process, facilitating collaboration with stakeholders and consultant teams. She particularly enjoys working with clients to write their Project Brief and to ‘think big’ at the commencement of their projects.

Emily is committed to climate-positive design and is a member of Australian Architects Declare, a movement promoting climate-responsive change in the building industry.

Emily was the 2021 recipient of the AIA’s Tasmanian Emerging Architect Prize.

Georgina Russell

Project Architect

Georgina is a registered architect with passion for research and design. After five years working on large-scale education buildings in Queensland, she relocated to Hobart where she has since gained experience in heritage and residential projects. Driven by the potential of the built environment to meaningfully impact peoples lives, she sees research as playing an important role in achieving successful architectural outcomes.

In addition to a Bachelor of Architectural Design and a Master of Architecture from the University of Queensland, Georgina is currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration through RMIT. She has tutored in both theory and design courses at the University of Queensland, and provided research support on several significant research projects.

Georgina is a member of both the Tasmanian EmAGN Committee and Architects Declare Working Group.

Kirsten Fox

Project Architect

Kirsten is passionate about people and communities; she strives to create spaces that are safe and healthy whilst fostering creativity, self-expression and social interaction. Kirsten strongly believes that architecture can and should be available and accessible to all.

After receiving an Exchange Scholarship, Kirsten studied abroad at Politechnika Krakowska in Poland. With over 6 years’ experience working in the architectural profession, Kirsten has worked predominantly in Tasmania and Victoria. Working typically in small practice has equipped Kirsten with the tools required to guide a project from inception through to completion.

Drawing on previous experience working on diverse project types, including residential, multi-residential, educational, hospitality, commercial and sporting facilities, Kirsten brings a rounded perspective to new projects and an energy to take on new challenges.
