Tong-Len Hostel site visit

Ceridwen and Ryan are in Dharamsala, India for the opening of the Tong-Len Children’s Hostel that will be inaugurated by the His Holiness, the Dalai Lama next week. The children are very happy with their new home and are settling in well. We are helping with the final touches and preparing a completion list this week so that the hostel looks its best for the official inauguration.

the Tong-Len childrens hostel is now completed.

Ryan and Ceridwen will be travelling to Dharamsala for the opening in November.

Concept design for Medical Centre in Woodbridge Tasmania

In late 2010, we prepared a concept design for a medical centre that was proposed in the rural town of Woodbridge in Tasmania (home to core collective’s design studio)

The village of Woodbridge has a strong connection with its early buildings and (as we were not commissioned by the developer, and the proposal by others was widely criticised) we prepared our concept with the intention of presenting a modern interpretations of vernacular form that - while respecting its heritage setting - would have a relevance to current and future sustainability/design expectations.

The intention was to test an idea against a real proposal and site and is published here partly as an example of design process but also to illicit community response. Comments by email to info@corecollective.com.au from locals and others are most welcome.

core collective has been commissioned to provide architectural services for the new Headspace Hobart facility. Image shows modelling of the design that is currently under review by Hobart City Council.

Tong Len Hostel nearing completion

The children’s’ hostel for Tong-Len in Dharamsala, India designed by core collective is nearing completion.

Final brickwork and rendering is underway and the children plan to be living in their new home by early July.

Ceridwen and Ryan will travel to the formal opening of the building - expected to be later this year.

Well done Jamyang, Tashi, Ravi and Lobsang and others in the local team.

core work on 1968 house by Charles Duncan Architect

We are pleased and honoured to be designing additions to a house in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne designed by Charles Duncan in 1968. It has been kept in wonderful condition by the current and previous owners.

The additions are underfloor/infill and designed slot into existing structure and avoid amendments to original detailing.
